Background and Identification
Samsung released the Galaxy S 4G, the successor to the Galaxy S, on February 23, 2011. The Galaxy S 4G featured a list of impressive tech specs, and T-Mobile--the sole carrier of the phone--claimed that it was the fastest phone on their network. Though the phone includes "4G" in the name, at the time of its release, T-Mobile's network (along with all other wireless service providers) did not have the 100 Mbps data speed necessary to claim 4G connectivity.
Specifications:
- 1 GHz processor
- 480 x 800 Super AMOLED display
- 5.0 MP Rear-facing camera
- VGA front-facing camera
- 1 GB onboard memory, with up to 32 GB SD storage
- 512 MB RAM
Like most Android phones of its time, the Samsung Galaxy S 4G sports a large touchscreen and four standard Android buttons. Logos for T-Mobile and Samsung appear on the front, while the back simply says "Galaxy S". The Galaxy S 4G differs from its predecessor by its graphite back panel and sliding cover for the micro-USB connector at the top of the phone. The model number SGH-T959V can also be found underneath the user-replaceable battery.
