The Printer isn't Connected to the Network

The printer isn't connecting wirelessly to the internet.

The Ethernet Cable is Connected

The Ethernet cable turns off the printer's wireless capabilities. Make sure this cable is not plugged in to the printer or your device.

The Wireless Setup Wizard Settings Need to be Updated

When establishing a wireless internet connection to your printer, you will need to enter the Wireless Network Name (SSID) and the Wireless Password (WPA or WEP). To find the name and password, look on the back or side of the wireless router you are trying to connect to. From the settings page of the control panel of the printer, select Wireless Setup Wizard. Follow the onscreen instructions for setting up a wireless internet connection.

Additional help on establishing a wireless internet connection can be found here on page 224.

The "Problem with Ink System" Error Appears

The printer shows a "Problem with Ink System" error and stops printing.

The Ink Cartridges are Leaking

Follow the steps to check for leaking ink cartridges:

1. Turn the printer on and open the ink cartridge access door.

2. Press the front of the first ink cartridge to remove it from the printhead.

3. Inspect the ink cartridge for leaks, being careful to avoid getting ink on your skin or clothing. If the cartridge is leaking, replace it with a new cartridge. Otherwise, slide the cartridge back into its color-coded slot and gently push it forward until it clicks into place.

4. Repeat steps 2-4 for all other cartridges.

5. Close the cartridge access door.

The Printing Mechanism is Faulty

It's possible to have a faulty printing mechanism. Follow the steps to reset the printing mechanism:

1. Turn the printer on and wait until the printer is silent.

2. With the printer on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and unplug the power cord from the outlet.

3. Wait at least 60 seconds.

4. Plug the power cord back into the outlet and reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.

5. Turn the printer on and wait until the printer is silent before attempting to print again.

The Paper Falls Out of the Printer

The paper does not stay on the tray once it's printed.

The Output Flap is Broken

The piece of plastic that keeps the printed papers in place is no longer attached. This results in papers sliding off after they are printed.

The Output Tray isn't Extended Far Enough

Extend the tray to the "Legal" position, as indicated by the writing in the middle of the tray. This will allow the printed pages to lay flat once printed, and prevent the pages from folding up or falling off the tray.

The Paper is Jammed

The printer shows a "Paper Jam" error and stops printing.

Tray 1 or Tray 2 Jam

If there is a paper jam in a paper tray, press the Power button to turn of the printer and disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer. Remove all paper from the tray and place your fingers in the slot of the front of tray to remove the tray. Gently remove any loose or jammed paper. Reload tray with a stack of paper, making sure it is properly aligned in the tray, then carefully reinsert the tray into the printer. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer: turn on the printer and try printing again.

Shreds of Paper are Stuck on the Printhead Path

If there is a paper jam on the printhead path, turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer. Carefully place your finger into the slot on the left of the printer, and pull open the ink cartridge access door. Use a flashlight to check for torn pieces of paper, gently removing any jammed or torn paper that is found. Close the ink cartridge access door and reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer. Turn on the printer and try printing again.

The Printer Output is Streaked or Missing Colors

The ink is not printed correctly on the paper.

The Printhead Needs to be Cleaned

There are two stages in the process of cleaning the printhead. Each stage takes approximately 2 minutes. After each stage, check the quality of the printed page. Only proceed to each subsequent phase of cleaning if the print quality remains poor. Follow the steps the clean the printhead:

1. Load Letter, A4, or Legal unused plain white paper into the main paper input tray.

2. Touch the right arrow button on the control panel, then select Setup.

3. Touch Tools, then select Clean Printhead.

The Printhead Needs to be Aligned

If the poor quality persists after cleaning the printhead, try aligning the printhead. Follow the steps to realign the printhead:

1. Load Letter, A4, or Legal unused plain white paper into the main paper input tray.

2. Touch the right arrow on the control panel, then select Setup.

3. Touch Tools, then select Align Printer.

The "Missing or Failed Printhead" Error Appears

The printer shows a "Missing or Failed Printhead" error and stops printing.

A Software Issue has Occurred

A software issue may have caused this message to appear. Turn the printer off and back on again.

The Printhead Needs to be Reinstalled

If the printer has been turned off and back on and the error message remains, reinstall the printhead. Follow the steps here.

The "Pick Motor Stalled" Error Appears

The printer fails to pick up and feed paper from the tray, and shows an "Out of Paper" or "Pick Motor Stalled" error.

The Printer Needs to be Reset

Follow the steps to reset the printer:

If you are able to print after resetting, you don't need to continue troubleshooting.

The Printer Firmware Needs to be Updated

Follow the steps to check the printer for the latest updates:

1. From the home screen on the control panel, select ePrint. Wait for the ePrint status to display.

2. Select Settings.

3. Select Printer Update, then select Check for Update Now.

If you are able to print after updating, you don't need to continue with troubleshooting.

The Paper is Dusty, Torn, or Wrinkled

Follow the steps to inspect the paper:

1. Open the output tray and remove the stack of paper.

2. Inspect for any dusty, ripped, curled, or bent pieces. Remove those pieces from the stack.

3. Remove any obstructions, such as torn paper or packaging materials.

4. Use a flashlight to view the inside of the paper tray to ensure nothing is blocking the paper from making contact with the rollers.

5. Reload a stack of 10-25 pieces of paper and close the input paper tray to resume printing.

The Paper Rick Rollers Need to be Cleaned

You will need a clean, lint-free cloth that doesn't come apart or leave fibers when used. You will also need water that is either distilled, bottled, or filtered. Tap water may damage the printer. Follow "Step 8: Clean the paper pick rollers" to clean the pick rollers.

This is a great guide. Could you elaborate on what to do if the leaky cartridge error doesn’t resolve? I put the new cartridge in and the error remains

I followed the directions for a faulty printer mechanism. The problem was not corrected. My printer makes a terrible noise and moves very slowly. It prints but takes much longer than usual. It sounds like it’s dying. Any suggestions as to what may be wrong?

It may be that the paper drive belt is worn and needs to be replaced ! Means taking the left side off the printer, removing the main mother board and a metal support that are in the way, before allowing access to the motor and belt. Can buy the belt of Ebay. Check Youtube videos where some people have done this. If you not experienced, take printer to a technician to do this !

My printer kept telling me the “printhead was missing or failing” I removed and reinstalled the print head and it kept reading the same message. So, I purchased a new printhead w/ new ink cartridges and align Printheads, but now, those will not align. I’ve tried a number of times, and it keeps coming up “ Alignment was unsuccessful”. Tried printing a few documents, but those didn’t print well, out of alignment.

Any suggestions, after I sent almost $200.00 on a new Printhead and Ink. The Printer is HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911n Premium

My touchpad is blank and won’t come on unless I unplug and replug the printer, then it comes back on and works properly for a few hours, but then it goes blank again. It also loses it’s wireless connection too, but when I unplug and reset it the wireless connection comes back. What do you think the problem could be? A power supply problem?

LaDonna Vieweg - 返信

…continuing my comment above, the power button on the lower right blinks slowly off and on after the touchpad goes blank, but after I unplug and replug it the screen comes back on and the power button stays on solid, until the screen blanks out again.

Hello,

my printer seems to have a mind of it’s own. If I leave it on and waiting for files it sometimes turns on and prints all of the paper in the tray with a single “d” in the top left of every sheet. I have reinstalled the software and the same fault recurs. Could it be a mechanical failure triggering this action?

Hello, I have an HP 8600 inkjet printer that recently ran out of ink gave me an error message that car just needed to be replaced. Due to finances I purchased one black 950xl cartridge, changed all the parameters in the print properties to set to print black and turn grayscale on, and now HP is telling me that they cannot find my printer on the network. I have a technical background, so I have reconfigured my Wi-Fi, my router, uninstalled and reinstall printer, ran scan doctor and still HP will not recognize that my printer is connected to the network. I believe HP has a monopoly on the ink cartridges and is intentionally blocking buy block printing as they want me to buy they're colored cartridges. Can you tell me your thoughts on this? Thank you in advance for any assistance. Very frustrated consumer!

The best part of the section on cleaning the paper pick rollers is that the section is titled “The Paper Rick Rollers Need to be Cleaned”. I'm afraid to click on the link for fear of being Rickrolled. ? Otherwise, kudos to iFixit for the excellent troubleshooting info.

Dear Sir, My product is an HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer - N911g.

My printer is frozen and I cannot seem to move it.  The message on my printer screen says: “Remove the rear access panel and automatic two-sided printing accessory from the back of the printer and then clear any paper.  If required open the front cover or ink cartridge access and clear any paper.  Touch OK when done."

I do this but when I press OK, it is frozen. In case it is relevant, the ink cartridge slider is frozen in front of the access door and is not sliding back to its printing position. Perhaps this is a cause or a symptom.

Mark Thompson - 返信

You can use the above methods to fix the HP Officejet Pro 8600 printer failure. All the methods are easy to use. There is a need to use the original ink cartridges according to the model of your HP printer. It is also vital to clean the printhead regularly so it works properly.

Regarding the HP Officejet Pro 8600 printer:

What is left to do if the "Selection mechanism jammed" error persists after each on/off of the printer and after each power on/off? In short, the printer no longer prints - it gives the above error!

brand - 返信

For "The Paper Falls Out of the Printer - al very "normal" and out-of-the-manual statements. The Output tray does not extend to Legal (I've tried what's been said on different boards, Firmly removing it, or pushing down on the 2 tray "tread" buttons, does nothing except make a button stick and not be able to return it to it's originating state.

Does anyone have an actual video of extending the output tray to Legal? or easily removing the Output Tray to examine the culprit? Never been seen or properly documented.

I guess I (and many others) am left with Legal paper flying off the letter-sized output tray.

I had a 8600 that said the same thing except it was yellow cartridge. I also had an 8625 printer which was pretty much the same. There is the rack that the cartridge fits in ands you can take out by lifting the gray lever on the right sides of the cartridge rack. I took this out and replaced. I then put the new ink cartridge back in and after several times of doing this and cleaning the cartridge it worked again. Just like before. So I’m am not sure what made it work but it does and still is working fine.
