New Laptop Battery is Not Charging

I purchased a Dell WDXOR replacement battery for my Dell 13 inch touch-screen laptop. The actual replacement when seamlessly. The directions from iFixit stated to let the battery charge fully (and continue charging at least two hours beyond full). Then it stated to run the laptop on battery power until the battery is exhausted then fully charge again.

I had the laptop charging all night and woke up to it only 7% charged. I checked the charging cord and it appears to be working but the battery is not charging (or charging extremely slowly). When I unplug it from the charging/power cord it immediately goes into low battery mode.

Did I do something wrong or does it take several days for the first charge of a new battery?

Thank you,

Ron C.

I assume it is an XPS13. I have one. Slow charge would normally be attributed to the charger/adapter. First, you must verify the charger is putting out the rated voltage (19V). However, the connector does not make that easy to measure without shorting things out. The other option is to get another, but they are valued more than they are worth IMHO.

However, slow charge can also be the battery or the charging circuit - but not usually the latter.

Partial and low charge would be the battery or the charging circuit. Again, not usually the latter.

Of course, since you just replaced it, it might be an installation issue.

Start with the adapter, then re-verify the installation. Then call the vendor for a possible replacement.
