My experience was the following:
-North American 7000 model, had the green Suppo batteries
-replaced with two Amazon rechargeable NiMH AAA batteries; they fit fine
-used electrical tape, didn't (have) solder
-hardest part was to put back on the black cover over the battery/switch unit, had to to squeeze its body into place, took some time! I didn't find that a tool helped here much, used my fingers to squeeze it in. Be careful not to snap this thing.
-initially the battery/LED unit blinked 8 times in orange, when not attached to the shaver; once attached, I charged it, it blinked green, until a solid green. works as expected.
-didn't read until later, other comments about installing depleted batteries first, but my already charged batteries seem to be working fine and can charge.
