Fingerprint sensor not replaced with new screen - easiest fix?

Due to a fall during my vacation, I had to urgently have my Pixel 7 Pro screen replaced far from home (in Spain, in fact). They told me they could replace the screen but did not have the time to reinstall the old fingerprint sensor (I had to catch the next flight, so I'm not mad about that). But now I have a working 7 Pro without a fingerprint sensor, and I can only sell it as broken even though it's perfectly fine otherwise. I also tried the Reddit re-calibration workaround just to make sure it's really a hardware and not just a calibration problem (Fingerprint Calibration Tool workaround : r/GooglePixel (reddit.com)), to no avail. So I'm thinking about "upgrading" a fingerprint sensor myself to get it to at least the "normal" state again. What would be the most "doable" fix here? Or should I "write it off"?

So your phone has the original fingerprint sensor or they kept it . I’m not familiar with Google phones . I’m just thinking if the original fingerprint sensor is in the phone still why doesn’t it work?

It's attached and wired to the screen on its back side and has to be transferred from the old screen to the new one including rewiring, which they just left out.

I mean they left out the old sensor, not just the wiring

If they gave you the old screen and fingerprint sensor you can sort it either yourself or at a repair shop , if not they left you a bit screwed!? Unless I’m missing something 🫣

They didn't, and I didn't ask for it then (was a bit taken by surprise and had to catch a flight, and I was glad anyway that the they had fixed it at all). I certainly can't get it know, if anything, I'll get a new sensor

Hi,

There are some potential differences with the fingerprint sensors.

I have recently replaced a pixel 7 screen and had no issues with the fingerprint sensor transfer.

However, on another pixel (6 pro) I came across a mismatch with the contact points for the sensor that is currently being looked into as the new screen was supposed to be a match.

The fingerprint transfer is relatively easy (taking care not to damage it) if you decide to do the transfer yourself.

But before you start, one thing you may need to watch for if you have the old screen with the sensor attached is contact points for the reader on the new screen & the old screen.

Here’s the pictures of the 6 Pro original screen, versus the replacement with the problem highlighted.

If you don’t have the original sensor then you may need to buy a replacement.

Either way, it’s inexpensive to do yourself but that’s relative to your skill level and risk acceptance of potential damage to your new screen in the removal process.

Anyone that understands a Pixel Pro phone knows it’s a simple fix, so you shouldn’t have any issues selling the phone with the original screen and sensor supplied in the sale.

Hope this helps

So fingerprint sensor isn’t paired to the board on these?! I need to stop doing iPhones 🤮

The only thing you may need to do is a recalibration with the google online tool, which in my 7 I didn’t need to do.

I'll probably go for the new sensor then and do it myself. I just checked the usual buyback reselling sites, and none would accept it without a working fingerprint sensor, so I guess that's a no-brainer then
