The down motion is un-necessary if you simply open the bean container lid the center chrome badge strip upper hooks will be free after the 2-15T torx screws are removed. Otherwise you will inadvertently break the two upward pointing j hooks on the top of the chrome center strip that hold to the lip of the CLOSE bean reservoir flip top. I too broke these and realized my error and returned to see if I had missed this detail! Tape for me as well!
