I found that I needed to chamfer the edge of the [-shaped metal plate at the opposite end to the hole and on the upper surface as shown in the picture. I used a manual wheel grinder, but a metal file, or fine wet and dry sandpaper would work just as well. Be sure to remove ALL the filings and wipe it clean, before re-inserting it!

This enabled this [-shaped plate to slide under the slotted rectangular metal plate shown in step 5.

It would be useful to mention the thermal pad and thermal paste at the beginning.

Please provide specifications for the thermal pad and thermal paste, or suggestions for each.

Insert the spudger under the red, black, and white cables to pry up the battery connector and detach it and the battery from the motherboard.
