This tip helped me SO much for both assembly and re-assembly. I strongly recommend doing this - for reassembly, it is much easy to ‘snap’ the display half in place into the keyboard side, then tighten the screws in the 3-screw piece directly on the table. (Very important - on reassembly, put in all three screws on both sides before trying to close the macbook - I broke my hinge the last time I did this, when didn’t put in all 3 screws before trying to close it.)

Successfully replaced the hinge on my computer (the one I broke back in my last comment.) The failure point for me here was all four screws (the screw heads sheared off) that attach the hinges to the display assembly on both sides of the display - that is, the screws that screw into the 2-screw piece on the hinge.

Be careful when reassembling the display. I only put in one screw per side in the three-screw hinge piece before closing the display, and thus ended up breaking that piece on one side, because the hinge has something wrong with it and produces a lot of friction when rotated. I should have put all three screws in on each side before closing the display, and then it probably wouldn’t have broken.
