The two inline thermal fuses (brass cylinders with a black end) are far more likely to fail than the heating element. Check them first.
T99 or Super Lube
3 oz. Tube Heat Sink Compound
can be used with the heater.
Before removing anything, do an in circuit resistance of those two small copper colored cylinders with a black end.
They are thermal fuses, and should have in circuit resistances close to zero.
Their placement is important, especially the one under the silver support bracket.
Glass is fused to bezel, not to the display, that's noteworthy.
Simplistic refers to treating somthing as much simpler than it is.
In this case, calling partial disassembly into a few major subassembles, one of which contains more than 95% of the content of the device, a teardown, is a simplistic understanding of what a teardown is.
The design is clean and straight forward, but not simple, except perhaps to someone would would regard an automobile engine/transmission assembly as a component to be replaced rather than repaired.
