I have the common components (mostly caps) and a flyback tranformer, repair kit for a mac plus analog board still on hand. Use to repair these all the time.

Simply backing out the 2 recessed screws about half way and then pinging the handle of the driver is the easiest way to "crack" the case open

I may be wrong but it appears that only the connector is missing from the circuit board for the HD, and the connecting ribbon cable, maybe some inventive individual can come up with a method to retrofit !!!

You guys seem to invest a lot of money on devices only to destroy them on teardown. Why not spend a little more cash and buy a rework station to assist ?

You can use common desoldering techniques to remove the RF shield. However it appears that either they don't have the proper tools, or just didn't want to take the time to remove it properly so that it could be restored. Though it can be done, it's much more difficult to resolder the tiny caps and resistors, as long as there is no irreparable damage to the board. I have to add that I enjoy the service that iFix is providing here, however it would be nice if they exhibited a little more bench tech professionalism during these tear downs. I have seen other tear downs, where a little more time and technique used would have resulted in a much cleaner tear down. JMHO !!!

Some of the "Tools" you use to disassemble an item with parts so small are really quite archaic. You should put in for some newer tools for finer work. IPO.
