Carefully score an inch of the black sponge insulation with a wire cutter.
Gently pull the foam away from the wires.
A scissor, box cutter, or X-ACTO knife may be used in place of a wire cutter.
While cutting the foam, use gentle pressure to avoid damaging underlying wires.
