Where does this connector go?

Hello, this refrigerator sat in my mother in law’s garage for a few months and was unplugged. It worked fine before that. We were in need of it, brought it home, plugged it in and it runs, but isn’t cooling at all. I was looking to replace the relay when I see this connector just sitting here not plugged into anything. And for the life of me I cannot find where it goes? Any ideas are gladly welcome! Thanks in advance !!

We might be able to look up a wiring diagram for your fridge and figure out what that connector is used for, but without knowing the model number, it's impossible. Please edit your question or add a comment with the model, which should be on a plate or label somewhere inside the door opening.

That being said, it's also possible it goes to a feature that's not included with your particular model such as an ice maker, for example, and as such isn't used. Manufacturers often use a single wiring harness for several models with different features.

When you brought the refrigerator home, was it transported in the upright position or at least not more than 30° from the vertical and hopefully not laid horizontally?

If it was laid horizontally turn off the refrigerator and allow it to stand for at least 24 hours before turning it on again. This will allow the oil in the sealed system to drain back down to the compressor (where it should be) and not that it is caught up somewhere in the sealed system and blocking the flow of refrigerant

When you say it runs, are the compressor motor and condenser fan both operating?

If they are and there's no cooling there's a problem in the sealed system e.g. lack of refrigerant due to a leak, blocked filter dryer, faulty compressor.

If the compressor is not running (no vibrations felt) and the condenser fan is running then it may be the start relay part # W11547180 (example only - search for the part number to find supplies that suit you best)

Re the connector, looking at the schematic in the tech sheet for the refrigerator the main water inlet valve (shown as ISO valve) seems to be a possibility, even though the wire colours aren't the same.

Check if there's a single water inlet solenoid valve mounted nearby. This is the main water inlet valve where the water supply is connected to which controls the flow of water to both the icemaker and the water dispenser, (link to show image of valve).

There should be a twin ice maker and the water dispenser valve as well i.e. when the ice maker requires filling the main water valve + ice maker water valve are both operated, when water is dispensed then the main water valve + water dispenser valve are both operated, (link to show image of twin valves)

@jayeff thank you so much for you’re in-depth help! I have a start relay being delivered today. When transported it was never laid horizontally. The only time it was even tipped back was in a dolly for less than 1 minute and it was not past 30 degrees.

When it was previously stored , it was in a garage not connected to the house with no heat. It has been around freezing temperatures in western Pennsylvania the past few weeks so maybe the oil got stuck somewhere and I didn’t give it enough time to thaw before plugging it in?

I’m currently letting it sit inside my house hopefully thawing it out might help. If not maybe new start relay will do the trick. Thanks again

Sometimes, connectors are for optional features. That may be or not, but if it is an old refer and sat for a while and you moved it, it is possible that connector isn't why it is not cooling.

Copper pipe in refers have a nasty habit of flaking as they age. Moving it tends to jar those flakes loose. They then proceed to lodge in the small copper tubing and BOOM no more cooling.

So, if you find a place for it and it works, congrat. If no place for it or it doesn't work when plugged in, it is likely the copper flakes.

I appreciate your help. Hopefully, like you said, the connector is for an add on lol. I’m going to give it one last chance and have it sit for a day or two unplugged and give it one finally shot before buying a new one!
