Won't power on even with fresh batteries

My Power Shot S2 IS just stopped working. Won't power on. Changed out the batteries with fresh AA, nothing. This happened a few years ago. Still wondering if I can fix myself without paying top dollar. This is an old camera, afraid I would be told that it is not worth fixing.

@multnomahgirl always make sure that the battery cover is making proper contact with the detect switch and that it is not bend bowed. It has to make proper contact. If it does you want to check the SMD fuses F101, F102 (1 and 2 in the attached image) for continuity and let us know what you find. If the power is turned on when an AC adapter is connected that either F102 is defective or that the battery connector is not seated right or corroded. Worst case scenario with that is a failed DC/DC board. "that it is not worth fixing." no way. For as long as you just check possibilities and tinker around with it, it will not cost you anything. I would not go and tell you to spend lots of money on it, but anything that is cheaper than a new camera, is acceptable to me.

I had this issue. My battery cover on my SX200 IS has damage. It works when I put an object on this switch.

Hi Edie,

You might want to read something about the common issue here. The solution might be the batteries, as mentioned in one of the answers.

As before this is probably due to the microswitch under the battery cover. I have the same issue due to a damaged cover
