HP printer shut down without printhead installed.

Hi - I removed the prinhead for cleaning, printer shut down without the printhead installed and made an awful noise. Is the printer damaged beyond repair, is it out of alignment? Installing printhead gives error and does not print nor copy any more. Thank you.
