No, they are not the same. I have the Otterbox for the New iPad and while the magnets worked on my iPad 2, they do not for the new one. I suspect from the playing around I have done that they need a stronger magnet to do the same thing.

No, they are not the same. I have the Otterbox for the New iPad and while the magnets worked on my iPad 2, they do not for the new one. I have flipped the magnets over to change polarity and just like that it works perfectly now.
