the green light on the on/off button only stays on for a few seconds then disappears. During that brief time the lens does not pop out. What is the problem.? I have tried replacing the battery and carefully cleaning the contacts, but to no avail.

When I turn the camera on the green light near the on/off button stays on for only a few seconds then disappears. During that brief time the green light is on, the lens does not pop out. I have tried recharging the battery and have even bought a new battery. I have also cleaned the contacts, but to no avail. What could I try next? Any ideas?
