How to replace the cracked Battery/memory compartment cover?

I have a crack in the cover of the battery/memory stick compartment. It makes the camera think the batteries or low or dead or the memory stick isn't inserted correctly. I have replaced the batteries and it still tells me low or no battery. It will also just suddenly shut off. Took it to my reunion and kept trying to put pressure on it so it would stay in contact with batteries & stick. Was a real pain. Sometimes that worked, sometimes NOT. Please help thank you.
