Did you know that there is a setting  option to prevent the display turning off while it is charging?

To check whether this option is set or not set  goto SETTINGS / DEVICE INFORMATION / /DEVELOPER OPTIONS  then check whether the 'Stay Awake' box is ticked. If so untick it.
