No picture when turned on

I know this sounds weird, but it could be caused by a broken HDD.

I repaired many of them with exactly this fault. When the HDD is gone, it’s trying to boot and get the bootanim from the HDD and then load the dashboard. When it’s unable to do so, it just shows “no signal” on the TV, no matter what you do.

Luckily, testing is very easy.

Remove the old HDD, and just put in whatever HDD (empty) you got. It should give you an error now! This means that the old HDD is broken and need to be replaced.

I highly recommend to install a new SSD at this point (first lookup which SSD’s are compatible). It’s way faster, less heat, more efficient etc. After you got the new SSD/HDD, you need to prepare it and configure the new drive with a script. Follow this guide for that: Xbox One Sのファームウェアインストール方法

Transfering the bootanim.dat from the old HDD if your Windows Laptop/desktop (if still possible!!) is recommended but not required. Without this, it’s just showing a black screen when booting up (but it will load the dashboard after this).

Then put the software on the USB and complete the install on your Xbox One S :).

IF, it did not show any errors when trying a new empty HDD, it’s most likely the HDMI IC that need to be replaced on the motherboard. This requires soldering and soldering experience to get the job done. But try the HDD method first!
