Phone not turning on

During a software update...it just randomly shutdown and has refused to turn on since then

Start out by trying a forced restart of the phone. Hold the Power and Volume Down buttons for about 20 seconds. Charge it for 30-60 minutes then try again if it doesn't work.

If that doesn't help, try wiping the cache partition. This page will give you more information about that process.

Try those two steps and let us know if they work or not. You may end up needing to connect it to a computer and doing a full restore (hopefully you have a backup), but try those things first.

@lamealerte, thanks for trying to help, but the poster specifically mentioned that the problem started after a software update, so the place to start troubleshooting is with software, not hardware. There's no indication of a problem with the battery at this point, so I wouldn't have suggested a bad battery as the cause, myself.
