Screen bezel replacement without LCD removal?

Hi, I need to replace the LCD rubber bezel which has dry rotted off. I've seen many videos replacing the bezel but it's always with the LCD assembly removed from the laptop.

Does anyone know if it's possible to replace the bezel without removing the LCD from the laptop?

I can't tell if there are any parts that lie under other parts that need to be removed first, like the hinge covers.

I have done this a few times and it is possible to do without removing the display providing that you not remove the lower part that covers behind the clutch cover as this is glued down and can very easily break some fragile glass part that is hidden under the edges (You can see it is a bigger rubber part (Hinge cover)), so I just cut the rubber before this. You may need a heat gun to fully do it all including the hinge cover. So, using a plastic tool or the like you can scrape out the old rubber making sure it is ALL removed otherwise the new gasket will not sit fully in. There are some YT videos on techniques to do this job, it is tedious and delicate so be careful not to 'slip' and put a scratch on the anti-glare coating. While you at it maybe this guide will help MacBook Pro Retina Display Anti-Glare Coating Clean Up Technique

Great, if I remove the LCD panel, will I still need a heat gun to remove the rubber section behind the clutch cover? I'm just hoping that it's dry rotted enough that it will flake off, if it's stuck on I may just leave it and call it a day since it's non-essential, was just hoping to get it done as I replace the LVDS cable.

@dannish The rubber slots into a groove and the clutch cover will hold it in there so it is possible and easier to do it with the clutch cover still fixed. the tension made from the covering on the hinges helps support that, BUT, there it is glued on and as mentioned before it is stuck to the LCD and VERY fragile thin glass which is very easy to crack! and there is a very thin cable in there also so super extra caution is needed there. Personally, I just cut the rubber at the point where it meets that covering part, if done well you wont notice it. Safer than sorry. Just massage the bezel into position and avoid stretching it, inch by inch gently does it and you'll be fine. Just make sure you get out all of the old bezel beforehand, some maybe slightly under the LCD edge so be careful. You do not want to try to remove the whole LCD panel as these are very fragile and a very very high chance that it will be busted!. Watch a few of them videos to get the full lowdown on what to expect before starting.

@livfe Alright will give it a go, if it's stuck I'll cut around it like you said. Appreciate your help!

@dannish Remember to cover the screen before working on the bezel, I suggest similar to the guide I posted for the anti-glare cleanup, good luck!
