Cellular connection going into SOS mode

A few months ago I took my phone to att because my phone would go into sos mode and it wouldn't get service until I restarted it but again it would go back into sos shortly after, I took it to att and they had me take it to apple because they thought the antenna is shot, apple tested it and everything checked out fine except the sim card reader if I remember right, they suggested I take it to att and get a e-sim which I did and its been working fine ever since.

Anyway now it's doing the same thing again on e-sim, I'm going to take it to att again and see what they can do but I'm going to guess it won't be very helpful since I'm prepaid, so is there any way I can just order the 5g antennas and replace them myself? I have solder experience with small pcb components so I don't think this would be too hard but I just don't know where to get the parts.

EDIT:
I just took it too the genius bar at the apple store the evening after posting this and they ran a test on it and the e sim reader AND the sim reader is shot now, from what i'm understanding is i need a new phone but if theres any ways i could possibly fix it myself because like i said i have solder expierence and doing basic stuff with my laptop, if there's any chance that antennas could fix it or try buying a parts phone and just take the board off that?

The first thing I would do is run this to get a baseline: Apple Repair Assistant. This will at least give you a baseline of what to expect and include any possible HW failures. Watch for an eSIM issue - dead eSIM=dead cell radio.

After you run the Repair Assistant, I would try to reset the network settings. That said, radio failures are not common, but I have seen them more on the 11 and 12 Pro to a lesser degree than the other phones, which are infamous like the Intel 4G GSM only (AT&T/T-Mo locked exclusive variant) A1660 iPhone 7 and to a lesser degree, the CDMA Qualcomm iPhone 7.

If, for some reason, it is already greyed out under Settings, there is another option you can try: Put the phone into recovery mode and then update the device there, as it will reload the radio firmware and potentially fix this.

I will say that most of the time, when the cell chip is dead with iPhones, it just takes newer iOS builds and the cell option remains dead. The problem is that you're dead in the water if it fails and doesn't take the update, and your phone is in a recovery mode loop

so basically if I run repair assistant and reset network settings and it greys out data in settings then the phone is shot?

@cohar0608 Yes. It means the cell chip is shot.

I haven’t had this issue myself, but it sounds like it could be a hardware problem, especially since it’s happening with eSIM too. Might be worth looking into replacing the antenna flex cables — the iPhone 12 Pro has a few related to cellular and 5G.

If you’re comfortable with small PCB work, you could try sourcing the parts from iFixit. They usually have reliable components and guides that can help with the repair.

Well you can try the following:

1. Restart Your Phone

2. Check Your Signal & Location

3. Check for Carrier Settings or iOS update

4. Reinsert SIM Card

5. Check Cellular Settings
