Xbox controller no longer able to successfully function on Linux?

I have personally contributed to this ifixit page for the wireless xbox controller.... the contribution is now a big fat lie.

Now, the issue I have is; my Ubuntu says that the controller is indeed connected, but the connection is not at all reflected on the controller itself. I get met with the flash of death.

I have successfully connected the wireless controller on my windows 10 box. I know the controller works. What is the difference between Windows 10 and Linux that prevents this thing from working?

I now have a "planned obsolescence" POS. What changed? The only issue that I had before was, I had to "forget this device" for the controller to actually connect; now I can't even use that trick.
