Motherboard clip fell off during a repair

I was repairing a joy-con with a drifting joystick and when I went to reassemble everything I found a tiny piece of plastic that is the clip for one of the ribbon cables.

Has anyone had this happen before (with any device)? I’ve tried to put it back on quite a few times with success.

Any tips and tricks or do I need a new motherboard?

generally, those pieces are like latches and pivot on one end. When pushed down they secure the ribbon against the contacts. If the pivots have broken off, the best you can do is to put it back on top of the ribbon and try to secure it with some stiff super strong packing tape. You might add a piece of foam as you assemble it to try to put pressure in it.

@amber and if that does not work you will have to replace the connector. Find a broken motherboard online and harvest the connector from that. It'll require some soldering but can be done.

Thanks for the reply, @ruggb and @oldturkey03! That tiny piece ended up being dropped on the carpet after the hundredth attempt at re-attaching it. It was never seen again.

Ultimately, I ended up just swapping the motherboard from a scrapped joy-con which did the trick after weeks of attempts and loosing a part smaller than a grain of rice.

Anyone know where to buy these clips or the whole connector that is on the motherboard to hold the joycon ribbon cable in place?
