Hello! I’m Amber and I’m the Community Manager at iFixit! I’m from the Central Coast of California, about 10 minutes down the road from iFixit in SLO. I’ve grown up on the internet and have always been a bit of an extroverted introvert–which is a perfect mix for managing online communities!
Ever since I was a kid, I’ve been headstrong and interested in doing everything myself. My mom's favorite story to tell about me is that my first widely used phrase was “Me do” which has now, coincidentally, turned into a career with “iFix” it. I am by no means a fixing master like some members on our site, but I am a decently confident tinkerer. My first big project was when I was 4 or 5 and I decided to take apart our family VCR so I could watch the tape spin inside instead of the movie it was playing. And yes, I did put it back together successfully. My most recent fix was replacing the joysticks to my JoyCons because of two cases of the dreaded Nintendo JoyCon Drift.
In high school I was the only girl in 2 years of programming and computer repair classes. I love seeing that more girls and women are taking on repair projects. This lead me to become interested in advocating for STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) in primary grades. The goal was to help more kids who wouldn’t generally be exposed to the idea learn to love it, so I originally went the direction of working towards working with kids. I did that for about 10 years–I was writing and teaching at summer camps (almost always science or nature based) and over the last few years I wrote and ran all of the teen programs at my local Y. Academically speaking, I have a BA in Child and Adolescent Development with a focus in Non-Profit Administration.
My interest in technology and never left me so when I found iFixit I knew I had to get onto the team!
In my off time I have a couple of hobbies. I like cooking and baking, reading fantasy and science fiction in any form (text, graphic novels, audiobooks, webcomics), listening to podcasts, taking care of my chickens and dog and garden, and lastly (but certainly not leastly) chasing around my toddler.
Motherboard clip fell off during a repairI was repairing a joy-con with a drifting joystick and when I went to reassemble everything I found a tiny piece of...
"Ps4 Powers up for roughly 10 seconds then shuts down"に関する回答@mr_nimbus sounds like their answer is on the right track, but their link didn’t show up. Here’s a link to a guide we have about replacing the Power Supply Unit.
"My lock fob has suddenly stopped working on my Ford Fiesta 2012 plate"に関する回答Hi @joyspurrier, can you attach a photo of the key fob? (Click here for directions on how to add photos to your post.) Even with the “sealed” devices you can usually get into them with a spudger (or a guitar pick, credit card, or flat head screwdriver). Once you’re in, you should be able to swap out the battery. This guide has a quick video example of using the key to open their fob. Hope this helps!
"iPod Classic 3G Battery (2003 device)"に関する回答Hi Mark, I did some reading around different places about the compatible battery for that iPod battery (616-0159) and the best answer I can come up with is that some of the sources might be less accurate. The highest battery size I’m finding online, from trustworthy sellers, is 850 mAh. On Newegg, for example. I can tell you that all of the products we sell are screened for quality and we offer a 1 year limited warranty on our batteries. I hope this helps and let me know if I can answer any other questions!
"iPod Classic 3G Battery (2003 device)"に関する回答Hello Mark, That’s a good question. I’ll be looking into it. Can you let me know more about your device so I know exactly what I’m researching? Just to double check, are you looking at the iPod 3rd Generation (3G) or the iPod Classic?
"Nintendo switch left joystick keeps registering movement"に関する回答Hi @benti, @nybblelynx is right, unfortunately for you. You’ve got the drift. There are a lot of articles online about different ways to fix it, but we just published an article a few days ago that has the only real solution- just have to replace it. I’ve replaced the joysticks to different left joy-con controllers, using this guide: Left Joy-Con Joystick Replacement. It took some patience, but it wasn’t terribly difficult. We also sell the individual part or a full kit to replace it. Hopefully this helps you out and isn’t too much of an information overload! Happy fixing!
"Display of a Moto G5g plus?"に関する回答Hello @hannes24, Sorry about your phone’s screen, what a bummer! Here’s a link to the Motorola Moto G5 Plus Display Replacement Guide. Hope this helps!

"Can I order a new connection part online?"に関する回答Hi brunette_jedi, You could try to find another one on eBay that is being sold for parts. Unfortunately, we don’t sell parts for it but eBay might work! Hope this helps!
"Can't get past red standby light to turn"に関する回答Hi ualemp837, Have you tried unplugging it from the wall and leaving it with no power for 10-15 minutes? Hope this helps!
"Two coils on the rear cover"に関する回答Hi Alejandro, Take a look at step three from the Google Pixel 4 XL Teardown–I think what you’re referring to is the NFC coil. It’s not something we sell individually. However, we do sell the Google Pixel 4 XL Rear Panel Assembly which includes both the NFC coil and the wireless charging coil. Hope this helps!
