Does Apple Thunderbolt Display make harmful to GPU on MacBook Pro 16?

I was using this monitor with my MacBook Pro 16”, they work fine. However, every time I have it connected, I can feel my MacBook Pro 16” getting warmer, I guess it will use the AMD GPU for powering up the Thunderbolt Display, even with the regular office usage. So, my concern is, will this shorten the lifetime of GPU on my MacBook Pro? Should I reduce the time of connecting it with Thunderbolt Display? Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Take a snapshot of your Thunderbolt displays settings so we can see what you have your system pushing.

Hi Dan, I actually didn't make any special settings, just use whatever the system uses. I will post some pictures from "Display" category.

Sorry Dan, how to upload pictures here? I have those pictures selected, but how to upload it into my post here?

さんによる

Best way is to upload to a third party service, such as https://imgur.com and post the link here.

I got the images fixed!

@lovecd - OK, go into the Display tab and select Scaled button. You should then have a listing of options. Your Thunderbolt display Optimum Resolution is 2560x1440 see if you have that listed, select it. See if that improves things.

That is what the system selected initially. I actually searched this issue online, and looks like there are quite a few complaints about the overheating with the new MacBook Pro 16" connecting with external monitor, so, it might be the software issue Apple needs to address.

Auto has its place! On my Mac Pro I manually set it and it works better!

Which one did you set manually?@danj

Did you see the listing of resolutions? I don't have a 16" MacBook Pro so I'm not able to see what it offers under the Thunderbolt display options.

From what I've gleaned you should have scaled resolutions of 2048x1280, 1792x1120, 1344x840, and 1152x720 as options.

Yes, 2560x1440 is automatically selected by system under "Scale" option.@danj
