Mouse pointer not moving
All mouse function is working great left-click, right-click and gesture except for the mouse pointer. Can it still be fixed?

this one didn't work on me
I found some other things you might be able to try. But this is in some specific cases. If you changed desk or mousepad or anything, try using another surface to test the functionality. Does the mouse move a little, or does it do nothing at all?
Maybe something trivial, but try finding a fresh set of batteries and testing that. Seems like some people have problems with mice not liking some batteries.
@reybatacjr & @maximc - The battery contacts can get dirty so the power is reduced. First try cleaning the contacts with a cotton swab and White Vinegar then use a a few other swabs with water to remove the vinegar and dry off anything remaining. If that fails use a fresh pink pencil eraser (still soft) to polish the surfaces.
I have since some time the same problem in that the mouse pointer is not moving reliably i.e at full (expected) speed. Very annoying. Cleaning the laser lenses and replacing the batteries (to a B-brand admittedly) did not solve the issue. Battery status according to iMac = 100%. I then completely removed the plastic gliders and the mouse did work again as expected. Putting back the gliders brought back the problem. I suspect that due to either age (10y plus) or maybe a voltage level issue with the brand of batteries, the laser is no longer working at full power, reducing its capability to track the movement of the mouse on the surface.

What you changed was the focus point! The plastic lens in your case shifted or melted a bit. So when you took the teflon sliders off the botton you improved its focus!
Sometimes tracking does not work very well if the lens is dirty. Try cleaning the little hole with a Qtip
