Receiver? Can any receiver work?
I have just a receiver for a wireless controller, so I'm curious to know can I buy any gamecube controller to hook up with the receiver?

biut unlike some wireless controllers I have seen for PC you can use ANY Wavebird reciever for this controller, you just need to make sure that the channel of your controller and the channel of the reciever match (they go from 1-16 and you need to choose the same for both so for example both to channel 1)
Edit: to clarify: the reciever obviously needs to be a reciever made for wavebird controllers, but you can mix and match between different wavebirds and controllers as they are not hard paired like some e.g. keyboards and mice.

No, not any controller will work. You have to figure out what receiver you have and make sure the controller is the same make.
For example, you attached this question to the "WaveBird" device which is a specfic type of receiver / controller combo.
If you want to know more about controller to buy you should google any names or numbers you see on the receiver or post some pictures of it. Your best bet for getting controllers is a used game store or ebay.

sure it needs to be for this model I think the point of this question tho was rather about whether or not the recievers and controllers are hard paired from factory like some other wireless gear (especially e.g. keyboards and mice) where you cannot just get a random reciever for the same model.
If it is a OEM WaveBird made by Nintendo (model number number DOL-004), it can be used with any receiver made by Nintendo (model number DOL-005).

there are NOT two different frequencies of wavebird controller for the gamecube. if your controller AND receiver are BOTH OEM & in good working order, with fresh batteries you should have NO PROBLEMS syncing them up. i have 5 receivers and more controllers. most have been pieced together by me, and there’s no telling what the person who owned them before me has done. i’ve switched them around and swapped them between consoles over the years, and i’ve seen absolutely no evidence to the contrary. as long as theyre set to the correct channel they should sync fine. if you’re gonna be using the wavebird controller exclusively i suggest 1st investing in x2 sets of batteries for each controller, so you can swap out fresh batteries as you go. you want rechargeable NiCad batteries by a reputable brand like duracell or energizer (because you get what you pay for). that way your signal will always be strong & your controller true! secondly remember to always be having fun or else what’s the point? enjoy!
