L2 trigger stuck on back panel
The bottom lip of the L2 trigger button is stuck outside of the back panel of the controller. I can't figure out a way to fix it without breaking the bridge between the L1 and L2 buttons.

This may be a little overkill but you should open up the cover on controller and free it that way if you break those small tabs your controller will not function properly here is how to open up your controller.

Your welcome I am glad you found a repair solution
It's not a proper answer. I have the exact same issue. The controller is already disassembled, so what are you trying to advise here? The trigger is literally hanging on the back panel, which is already separated from the front panel. How do you take the trigger off the back panel?
@coolak I'm sure you've probably either fixed this problem or moved on from it, but I'm going to respond anyways in case anyone else runs into this same problem.
I had this same problem a few weeks ago and saw the comment on this from JDT that informed me that the triggers are actually two parts, the outer trigger shell, and the hinge. I found needle nose pliers was most useful.
To understand better how it worked, I practiced by removing the trigger that isn't wedged, and separating the two parts to familiarize myself with the mechanism better since I had to do the same thing on the other side but with the trigger still wedged in there, and didn't want to accidentally break anything.
Just follow a guide to open the DS4 carefully. GL

I think my question was misleading. I added a second image of the tab I was trying to reference. I found out that the plastic trigger buttons are sold online, so I'll probably just break off the L2 trigger button and install a new one. Thank you for responding though.

Is the small tab at the base of the triggers necessary? If I were to break it, would the controller function normally?

Not to necro a dead thread, but I felt this was important for anyone who runs into this problem, like myself.
The trigger itself, not counting the spring and rubber pad, is actually composed of two plastic pieces instead of one - the hinge, and then the trigger shell that you see and press on. The hinge slides into the trigger shell, and can be simply pulled out.
Easy way to fix a stuck trigger like this is to just open up the controller (4 screws, pop the sides yada yada) and then when looking at the back of the controller with the stuck trigger like OP, just pull on the hinge part with a thumb, screwdriver, pair of pliers, whatever have you until the hinge pops out and the trigger shell is free. Then, reassemble and remount on the appropriate side of the controller. Viola.
Thanks to several days and a few frustrated whacks with a hammer, I found out this nifty detail (miraculously nothing broke). Not sure why it's never mentioned anywhere, but hope it helps anyone else with this issue in the future.
