keyboard malfunction some keys not working.

Not to long ago my macbook pro was acting up and being very slow. Along with that there came a point were some of my keys on my keyboard were unresponsive. Example: COMMAND+V gives me a lower case "f" and some other letters don't work as well. I tried resetting my pram but my p,r, command and option don't work. I was able to run disk utility to see that was wrong and happen to be that my HD was failing. I immediately installed a new HD thinking that this would some my keyboard problem, but it didn't. My Mac now runs a lot faster and smoother but I still have issues with my keyboard. What could be the problem and how can I fix it?

Often something was spilled into the keyboard. You will need to clean the keyboard or replace it.

I would start by taking of the keycaps and then carefully clean things up. I would use distilled water (not tap water!) if you spilled anything sticky. Use a cotton swab (Q-Tip) slightly damp (not wet!). You should then go over the ares again with a high grade (85% or better) Isopropyl alcohol again with a damp cotton swab. While that might fix things its not getting into the deeper areas of the key. That gets into having to completely taking the system apart.

Follow this IFIXIT guide: MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Mid 2009 Upper Case Replacement. Now the tricky part even here its not easy! as you will need to remove 85 + snap refits or screws to take the keyboard out. I don't even try any longer as I've found more often than not the contacts are to far gone to fix. I just replace the upper case assembly which is what I recommend. While more expensive in the long haul it will be cheaper! Here's the IFIXIT part: MacBook Pro 13" Unibody (Mid 2009/Mid 2010) Upper Case.

Could this still be the problem even if i have never spilled anything on my keyboard? i have read other forums and many people suggest deleting ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.keyboardtype.plist, but even that doesn't show up when i look for it. I also noticed that when i open the Keyboard Viewer and I press on the keys on my keyboard it actually recognizes them but when I try to type on TextEdit, It won't seem to work.

Is your keyboard not just set incorrectly?

Thats what I don't know. It just makes it extra hard to diagnose when my keyboard doesn't work properly. Any suggestions?
