This Troubleshooting Guide should help you determine what methods you need to go about in order to fix some common problems you might be having with your Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. Remember to read through all the options before starting with the first one you see! Good luck!
Rear panel is broken
I dropped my tablet and cracked the back plastic panel!
If you cracked your back plastic cover, you can buy a replacement and follow our guide here to replace it.
Tablet won't turn on
Tablet display won't turn on when I press the power button!
Dead or broken battery
If the device does not turn on by holding down the power button, your device's battery could be dead or it could be malfunctioning. Try charging your device; if it does not hold a charge, you may need to replace the battery using the guide here.
Faulty charger
Plug your charger into your device and if no charging icon appears on the screen, your charger may be broken or not working properly. To check if the charger is in fact the problem, try charging with a different 30-Pin charger. An OEM Samsung charger can be found here. If it still doesn't charge, look into replacing your battery here.
Blocked 30-Pin charging port
Check to make sure there isn't anything blocking the connection of your 30-Pin charging port on your device. Dirt or pocket lint could have found its way in there. You can try to blow it out or carefully use the end of a small paperclip (or similar long slender object) to get it out.
Jammed or broken power button
Your power button could be jammed or it may need replaced. Unfortunately, we don't have a guide for this yet, but Step 7 of our motherboard replacement guide shows you exactly where it is located on the device.
Software issue
Your software could be corrupted causing the device to not work properly. Try reinstalling the operating system according to the manufacturer's specifications to restore the software. If you can, try to back up your files to another device.
Broken motherboard
If the previous options have not fixed your device, your problem most likely lies in the motherboard and should be replaced. Our repair guide for that is here.
Tablet doesn't produce sound
I turn the volume on full blast and there is still no sound!
All sounds are turned off from the Accesibility Settings menu
Be sure the "Turn off all sounds" setting is not checked. The "Turn off all sounds" setting can be found under the subsection 'HEARING' within the Accessibility settings.
Obstructed path
Check to make sure there is nothing blocking the speaker holes. This could be caused by a case or a build up of dirt. To remove blockage, swab a thin q-tip across the surface of the speakers and inside the speaker hole. If you want to remove the rear panel to check for further obstructions, follow our guide here.
Broken speaker
You speakers could be blown out or you could have a bad connection. Step 10 of our motherboard replacement guide shows where the speakers and their connections are, but we don't have a guide for replacing the speakers themselves yet.
Software issue
Your software could be corrupted causing the device to not work properly. Try reinstalling the operating system according to the manufacturer's specifications to restore the software. If you can, try to back up your files to another device.

LED flash doesn't turn on

Broken LED flash or wire
Your LED flash light could be broken or the wire could be torn. You can follow our guide to replace it here.

Front camera doesn't work

What worked for me was pulling the SIM card out. I started right up afterward.

I found pressing and holding Power , volume up, and volume down for 15 seconds finally reset it to boot up. Just waited for the tablet to vibrate and beep, then released the buttons. Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 - 10.1" - 4G tablets. I think it gets either too hot (sunlight in a car in the summer) or odd power fault from an auto USB charger, just turns it off.

OMG!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you! I tried EVERYTHING to get my Tab A 10.1 to turn on and NOTHING WORKED until I read what you did. I held the Power Key and both the VOLUME KEYS! In 6-8 seconds I saw the battery (61%) appear on the screen so I let go of the buttons and wait a few more seconds and then pressed the ON key! WOW!!! It worked!

Hi, my tablet has always the LED flash turns on. Even if the tablet is off. Only without battery but once you conect the charger on it turns on again...any help?

colors are mismatched, when i twist the whole case forcibly the colors return to normal, had the back off removed the ribbon cables and pushed back in, but still no good.

My tablet charges really, really slow. Right now it's almost 11am. Had it plugged to my charger since last night at 10pm. It only got up to 30% charged and hasn't changed since 6am. (Charger is fairly new) (Also tried my car charger connected to my computer, did the same thing. Car charger is fairly new also.) Do I need a new battery? If so, where do I get one for this device and how do I change it?

Make sure you have the right charger. I was using the one for my phone but with the tablet cable. Not strong enough. Should be 5V output not 1.0V or 2V.

The tablet's screen color is strange, with yellow, green, and bright light blue in spots. A static like patter is on greys and black as well.

Got the new Tab A 2016 from Costco...actually my FIFTH now.With the ugraded goodies and 212$ bucks how can you go wrong?
problem : sometimes ( often) my presses do NOT register.I have to press the same spot ( say clash of clans or boom beach). Often I have to press 5-20 TIMES for it to accept the touch !
Returned 4 in last week, on #5 now. Sooooo I did not just a 1 in a million bummer.
NOBODY on the net has really talked about this issue( and people cry and ##&&% about everything)

This might seem silly also but it happens to me all the time. With this new edge technology if you're holding your device where one of your fingers is touching even the smallest part of the glass, it will cause the screen to not be able to take another command or (button press). The device can only take one command at a time so it won't accept another if you are accidentally touching the glass. Some Samsung devices have the glass curved around the edges and makes this problem worse. I can't imagine that many would be defective, so thats why I threw this suggestion out there. I, myself do it here and again.

Found this on an android forum when my 10.1 tab a wouldn't turn on. Press and hold power and volume down button together. release volume down button, and the unit should then power back up. Mine shut down last night sometime, and would not power back up until I tried this after finding out about it on line. Another suggestion that works for some people is to push and hold the power button while keeping a finger on the screen till it powers on.

This morning I got a picture of that horrible green devilish looking Samsung imogie saying "upgrading, do not turn off" or something to that affect. After hours of this, I finally tried to turn it off. There was no circle or bar to indicate anything was actually happening but it was unresponsive and stayed on anyway. Later, I saw it flashing in a poltergeist manner and then it went black. It seems dead and won't turn on now. What happened? I will miss it. I have a new iPad but prefer the old Samsung, which was my first tablet.

My Samsung tab A6 2016 was working perfectly fine this morning …but I came to check something up and it just wouldn't turn on …but if you plug in a charger ..the charging sound is being heard ….after some hours ..a strange light Appears on it and that is all…I Can't switch it off or do nothing . .somebody please help.

I have a Samsung note 10.1 that would not power on. I replaced the battery and it worked until battery drained. It will not charge. There is no battery icon on the screen and even though the charger( brand new Samsung) is plugged in it still says plug in the charger. I know the charger cube works because I’ve tested it on my new Samsung tablet but cannot check 30 pin cord as i do not have any device it will fit. My guess is either get new 30 pin cord or replace the charge port? I cannot find anything online about a missing battery icon. Anyone else having this issue? Any suggestions? Thanks

Regular users of rear camera, but it frequently locks up the whole device giving a black screen. When you get this you either have to close all apps or restart the device to clear this. Can we prevent this from happening?
