Poor Battery Performance

The battery loses its charge more quickly than it should or the device does not power on.

Battery Discharging Rapidly

After some usage, the battery will start to discharge more rapidly than it would normally. Depending on usage of the device, the battery should power the device between 8-12 hours. While this can simply be due to using more intensive applications, the problem can often be attributed to an uncalibrated battery. To calibrate your battery, completely discharge the device through normal use, and then fully charge the device, ensuring an uninterrupted charging session.

Software Error

Your battery may be discharging rapidly due to a software error. Make sure Windows is updated to its latest revision, and update your BIOS to its latest version here. Additionally, if your device is using more than 2% of battery life per hour while in sleep mode, a default driver installed on the computer may be consuming extra battery life, so re-install or update your drivers. These drivers are found on Asus’ website here.

Faulty Battery

Firstly, it is interesting to note many users experience software errors which cause the device to underestimate its current battery capacity. This causes the device to think it has a lower battery capacity than it does, and the device acts accordingly. This can be fixed by updating your BIOS, drivers, and operating system as described in the above sections.

If this fails, your battery has a hardware issue and needs to be replaced. Replace your used battery with a new battery as described in the repair guide here.

Device Fails to Power On

Your Transformer Book will not power on due to an issue with the battery, power adapter, power port, or overheating device.

Faulty Power Adapter

If the adapters for your charger are visibly damaged or bent, the device will only charge when the cable is positioned precisely, and it will disconnect easily. Moreover, if charging stops and starts automatically, it is possible that the power adapter is not functioning properly. The best way to test if the charger is faulty is to try an alternative charger on your device and see if the device charges successfully. If the power adapter is damaged, purchase a new power adapter, or request a new one if it is still in warranty.

Device Overheating

Use the device in a cool, dry environment since utilizing your device in places of high temperatures (such as the outdoors) will cause your computer to overheat. Do not cover the device with fabrics or other heat-trapping materials. Keep any device’s ventilation as open as possible at all times.

Charged Device Fails to Power On

When the power button is pressed, the device fails to turn on, even when the battery is charged.

Malfunctioning Battery

See our section on “Faulty Battery” under “Poor Battery Performance.”

Visually Defective Screen

If your screen shows visual defects such as solid, colored lines throughout the display or dead pixels, the cable that connects to the LCD screen may be loose. It may need to be replaced or reconnected. This can be accomplished using the guide at the bottom of this webpage.

Improperly Installed Battery

If your battery does not work as intended, it may be installed in a wrong orientation, or the battery cable may be disconnected. Make sure the battery is oriented in the proper position. The correct way to install the battery can be found here.

Other Hardware Failure

Test to see if the screen is faulty by plugging the device into an external monitor. If the external monitor does not display an image, a hardware failure may be the culprit. If the external monitor displays a normal image upon startup, only the LCD screen of the tablet is defective.

Screen Brightness Too Low to See

Unfavorable ambient lighting conditions can make the image displayed by the screen difficult to see. Check to see if images appear on the screen after you increase the brightness of the screen using the dedicated buttons on the keyboard to do so.

Unresponsive Display

The device turns on but only displays a black, blank screen.

BIOS

The Basic Input/Output System function is responsible for initializing the device’s hardware, and the device cannot start successfully without a working BIOS. A faulty BIOS could be caused by a failed BIOS update or a powerful computer virus. To fix this issue, reinstall the device’s BIOS using an external storage drive with the BIOS firmware on it.

If you suspect your BIOS of being irreparably corrupted, you can replace your motherboard following the guide here in order to fix the BIOS.

Unresponsive Touchscreen

The touchscreen is frozen on one image or is not receptive to any input.

Device is Frozen

Perform a manual reset on the device. Begin by holding the power button until the device shuts down entirely. Wait at least one minute before holding the power button again until the device turns back on.

Additionally, if you suspect your power button is physically broken, you can follow the guide here to replace the button module.

Driver for the Touchscreen was Disabled from an Update

On Windows, go to the Control Panel Home, then the Systems and Security tab, then the Systems tab. On the left side, click Device Manager and look for I2C HID Device. Right click to disable the device. Windows will reset and then right click I2C HID Device again to enable it. A helpful guide for this can be found here.

Keyboard Unresponsive

If your screen is only unresponsive when typing, you may want to replace your keyboard. A guide instructing you how to do so can be found here.

User’s Hands Are Not Clean and Dry

Wash and dry hands thoroughly. Clean hands are necessary to allow the device to detect the user input. A wet or damp screen will struggle to detect input.

Screen Requires Cleaning

Clean the screen with a soft, slightly damp lint-free cloth. A clean screen is necessary to detect user input. A wet or damp screen will struggle to sense finger movements.

Webcam is Frozen

If your screen is unresponsive only when viewing yourself in the front-facing camera, you may need to replace the camera board for the webcam to become responsive again. A guide to do this can be found here.
