Shattered Glass Replacement

The tablet was dropped several times, which left parts exposed. Chips of glass flaked off every time I touched the iPad.

Removing the glass was messy, even though I taped down the shards. The edges splintered easily and I cut my hands several times. The plastic spudger wasn't strong enough to pry the glass, but a utility knife (used carefully) did the trick.

Safety glasses are vital. The shattered glass kept shooting in every direction, despite my carefulness and steady hands. I ended up damaging the cord for the power button in the top right corner, so be gentle and slow. The wifi antenna was also a challenge, though it remained unscathed.

When reattaching the digitizer ribbon-thing to the logic board (sorry, I'm new at this), tuck in the excess ribbon behind the LCD so there isn't a bulge under the glass.

A hair dryer is more quicker and more effective than the iOpener included in the kit.

The bezel is easily chipped if your hand slips while trying to pry open the glass. If a tool doesn't successfully pry the glass after it's been heated, switch to something else to avoid scraping the bezel up more than necessary. I was stubbornly convinced that the plastic spudger would work, even after it slipped half a dozen times, and I now have a cratered bezel to show for it. Force is necessary, but only to a certain degree.
