In this guide, we will update macOS, and run all Post-Installation patches to make your Mac feel normal once again. (We will not cover all potential work-arounds if an issue occurs)

Okay, the big moment. It is time to update macOS using OpenCore.
For this guide alone, I am using screenshots from macOS Ventura, but all versions of macOS are look basically like this one.

First, we need to create a bootable USB drive for macOS.
Fortunately, there is a guide that covers how to do this:

Make sure you know which version of macOS you want to use.
If you want an older version of macOS (i.e. macOS Catalina or older), this guide, nor the guide above will work (because PlatformSupport.plist is only patched on macOS Big Sur and newer). Soon I will make a guide covering how to install older versions of macOS using OpenCore.
Just to be clear, if you have already followed Guide #2 in making a backup for your Mac, you should now have two USB Drives: one for your Mac's last compatible version of macOS, and another to update with OpenCore.
Also, if you had to install OpenCore on the USB drive instead of on the Mac's internal drive, you MUST install it on the same USB drive as the one with the updated macOS. You need the drive to both boot and update.

Once you have created the Bootable USB Drive, made a backup of everything, and have successfully installed OpenCore on your Mac, you are ready to continue.
Restart your Mac, and hold down the Option (alt) key on your Mac.
In Startup Manager, you will see the OpenCore logo, and it will say "EFI Boot"
When booting into the OpenCore OCLP boot picker for the first time, your Mac will then boot into it by default on every restart.
You must have the USB Drive connected to the Mac BEFORE loading the OCLP boot picker, or else it will not show up. Also, if you had to install OpenCore on the USB Drive instead of on the Mac's internal drive, EFI Boot will not appear in the boot picker until you connect the drive.

Ah, at last. The OpenCore OCLP Boot Menu. As you may notice, this Menu looks very similar to Startup Manager.
In this menu, you will see your Internal Drive (Probably Macintosh HD) and your USB drive you just created. That's where we want to boot. Choose the USB drive, and click the arrow to boot.
If you unchecked "Show Boot Picker" while installing OpenCore, you can make this menu appear by holding "esc" at startup.

If you see the Apple Logo, and then the progress bar, you are in good hands.
But, if you see the Prohibitory Sign, you will need to Spoof your Mac's Serial ID. This is extremely rare, and run back to Guide #3 to make sure you installed OpenCore correctly.
Once again, I will soon make a guide covering OpenCore's Post-Installation. That will cover Spoofing, Feature Unlock, Customizing the OCLP Picker, etc.

Once the Apple Logo goes away, you will be greeted by Recovery OS (and maybe the Language Chooser if you happened to reset the NVRAM).

Now, the rest is easy, simply click on "Install or Upgrade macOS"
Click "Continue"
Click "Agree" and then "Agree" again.
Choose your Mac's drive, and click "Install"
Now, this installation could take anywhere from 25 minutes to 3 hours. So, sit back, and wait for your Mac to finish the installation.
You must keep your Mac connected to a power source during the installation.
Don't panic if everything on the screen is ridiculously small. This only happens on Retina Macs without graphics acceleration. You will fix this later.

Your Mac is going to Reboot several times.
If for some odd reason your Mac boots into Recovery OS after preparing the installation, simply reboot the Mac, and choose "macOS Install" in the OCLP Menu.

Eventually, you will see Setup Assistant. There, you can log into your iCloud account, and finish setting up anything else on your Mac.
If you upgraded macOS, you may not see Setup Assistant. Every Mac differs in this way.

One last step, we need to install any patches for your Mac.
Open up the OpenCore-Patcher app (Probably still in your Applications folder if you installed OpenCore with the package and upgraded macOS), and you will see a button available: Post-Install Root Patch.
Click that button, and OpenCore will search for aplicable root patches (Graphics Driver, Bluetooth, USB, etc.)
Once all patches are found, click on "Start Root Patching"
OpenCore will close and then ask for your Username and Password. OpenCore will automatically relaunch as root. (There's a chance that on newer versions of OpenCore it won't even ask for your Password.)

When OpenCore relaunches, you will see a bunch of text scroll through rapidly.
Eventually, a new window will apear asking to reboot. Click the "Reboot" button, and then "Restart" in the power menu. After your Mac reboots, all patches will have been applied, and your Mac will be ready to roll.

Please note your Mac is probably not completely ready. You will still have to make sure OpenCore is installed on your Mac's internal Hard Drive.
To make booting a bit more snappy, open the OpenCore app once more, and uncheck "Show OpenCore Boot Picker" That way, your Mac will immediately boot without showing the OCLP menu at every startup.
And, if you migrate macOS later on, revert all root patches, and then migrate. This will prevent any kernel panics that may occur later on.

At this point, you should be able to eject your USB Drive, and you should be able to reboot into OpenCore without any Drives connected to your Mac.
Double check step three to make sure you choose the OpenCore OCLP while in Startup Manager.
