If your laptop won't boot or is overheating, you may want to clean or replace your fan, which is located at one corner of the motherboard, next to the heat sink assembly and exhaust vent.
Caution - make sure your laptop is unplugged and powered off before beginning.

Flip the laptop so the bottom is facing up.

Use a JIS J1 screwdriver to remove eight 6 mm screws from the bottom of the laptop case.

Use a Torx T9 screwdriver to remove the single 6 mm screw.

Loosen the four JIS J1 captive screws on the hard drive tray.

Use the black tab on the hard drive tray and pull it toward the bottom of the laptop to remove the drive.

Use the point of a spudger to push on alternating sides of the fan connector to "walk" it out of its socket.

If that doesn't work, use a pair of tweezers to firmly grip the sides of the connector and pull straight away from the socket. Hold the tweezers closer to the connector to get a better grip.

Use a JIS J1 screwdriver to loosen the six captive screws securing the fan and heat sink assembly.

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order. Take your e-waste to an R2 or e-Stewards certified recycler.
