Background

The Roku XD was released in September of 2010 by Roku, Inc. It came bundled with a synchronized remote, component AV cables, power adapter, and guide. An early and simple device to stream internet media to television, the device was discontinued in July of 2012.

The remote for the Roku XD is the same black plastic with purple ‘Roku’ tag. It can only interface with the Roku XD, and only has buttons for controlling the box. The top right button returns to the home screen, while the top left button returns to the previous screen. The center of the controller has four-way direction and selection buttons. Below that on the left is the instant replay button and to the right is the options button. The bottom row of buttons, from left to right, are: reverse scan, play/pause, and forward scan.

Identification

The Roku XD is identified by model number 2050X. Visually, all Roku devices are instantly recognizable by the purple fabric tab located on the main body with the word 'Roku' in white text. The Roku XD is a black plastic square with the letters XD on the top face. The top face of the device has many ventilation holes. An LED on the front indicates if the device is on, and the cable ports are located on the rear of the device. There are ports for HDMI, Ethernet, and AV cables, along with the power cable port.
