These models are a notable step up from both the tilt-head and AC motor bowl-lift models when it comes to performance, reliability, and price. The star of the show is the 1.0HP or 1.3HP DC motor. This motor is coupled to a dual planetary reduction gearbox, a design which is more robust and reliable than the worm-drive gearbox found in the tilt-head models and the older AC motor bowl-lift models.
While they can have notably larger bowl sizes (especially the 7 and 8qt models), smaller optional bowls are available.
Models
KitchenAid has produced a total of five models, only two of which are still sold, with a DC motor:
- Professional 6000HD (Discontinued) - Not to be confused with the Professional 600 (which is an Old AC Motor Bowl-Lift Model) this was the intro line to the DC motor models for a while. Supposedly, this 6-qt. model was first introduced as a Costco exclusive and has a special tulip-shaped variant of the narrow 5-qt bowl. It supposedly comes with a 1.0HP motor, but the motor has the same part number as the motor in the 1.3HP mixers.
- Professional 6500 Design (Discontinued) - Similar to the other DC motor models with a 1.3HP motor but with a F-series glass bowl and accessories. This model was often sold at culinary design stores like Sur La Table and Williams-Sonoma.
- ProLine 7-Qt. (Discontinued) - This model occasionally still pops up on KitchenAid's website. It features a 1.3HP DC motor, a 7-qt. bowl, and depending on the specific model number may have come with either coated or stainless steel accessories.
- Commercial 8qt - Featuring a 1.3 HP DC motor, an 8-qt. NSF-rated bowl, NSF-rated stainless steel accessories, and a two-year warranty which allows for commercial use. Internally, it is essentially identical to the ProLine 7-qt.
- Commercial 8qt. with Wire Bowl-Guard - This model is identical to the previous Commercial 8qt. but includes a Wire Bowl-Guard and emergency shut-off button to comply with safety regulations for more highly trafficked commercial spaces.
