Background and Identification

The Acer Aspire One is a line of Acer netbooks first released in 2008. Netbooks are designed for mostly internet based tools and services including web browsing, saving files, and running a few apps. They were popular between 2007 and 2014, as tablets grew more advanced and gained popularity, the demand for netbooks declined.

The CPU platform for the Acer Aspire One dictated many of its characteristics. Early models of the Aspire One were based on the Intel Atom platform, consisting of the Intel Atom processor, Intel 945GSE Express chipset and Intel 82801GBM (ICH7M) I/O controller. They were available in several shell colors including seashell white, sapphire blue, golden brown, onyx black, and coral pink.

Then, various AMD chips were introduced in later models and newer versions of the Atom were also used. In June 2010, models with the AMD Anthon II Neo processor and ATI Radeon HD 4225 graphics controller were released. These models were available in onyx black, antique brass, or mesh black shells depending on the model.

Acer officially ended production of its netbooks, the Aspire One series, in January of 2013 due to declining sales caused by the increasing popularity of tablets and Ultrabooks.
