Background and Identification
The Mazda Millenia is an executive car produced by Mazda, a Japanese automaker, between 1993 and 2002. The Millenia was initially planned to be the second of three models for Amati, Mazda’s proposed luxury brand. Instead, the Millenia was released in 1993 in Europe as the Mazda Xedos 9 and as the Eunos 800 in Australia and Japan. In 1995, the car was launched in North America as the Mazda Millenia.
The Mazda Millenia was sold as a four-door sedan with a front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout. It was available with a 2.0-, 2.3-, or 2.5-liter V6 engine paired to a five-speed manual transmission (for the European 2.0-liter and 2.5-liter engines only), or two different four-speed automatic transmissions.
Because the Mazda Millenia was developed for market separate from typical Mazda customers, the Millenia features improved interior plastic quality and a thicker paint coating. Production of the Mazda Millenia ended in 2002 with the introduction of the Mazda6, which was a replacement for the 626. The Millenia did not have a direct predecessor.
Mazda vehicles can be identified by the Mazda emblem, which depicts a pair of wings in the shape of a ‘V’ inside of an oval, and the Mazda logo, which portrays the name “Mazda” in lower-case letters. Millenia models include the name “Millenia” in lower-case letters.
