Why does my camera screen keep turning off?
I have a Lumix DMC-TZ18 and it worked perfectly the first couple times I used it but now when I switch it to Rec mode to take photos the screen immediately turns off. I've done the whole, half-pressing the shutter to get it out of sleep mode and I've turned it on and off multiple times but that doesn't really do anything. I downloaded the manual and tried everything that I think it could possibly be by turning certain things on and off. The screen stays on when I switch to display mode to preview photos and it worked when I was testing out the stabilizer demo which is uses the rec mode. It's still in relatively good condition, so I don't know what else it could be.
@ulumaji does your lens at any time extend or does your camera turn off immediately? Which manual did you download.

I also own a DMC-TZ40—a model from around the same generation—and the mode dial sometimes makes poor contact, causing the camera to behave erratically.
Rotating the mode dial 20 times clockwise and 20 times counter-clockwise often fixes the issue, so it might be worth a try—you’ve got nothing to lose!

@oldturkey03 the lens behaves normally, only extends when switched to rec mode and then retracts and extends when i half-press (when i thought the issue was because it was in sleep mode). i downloaded the manual from some website but its the Panasonic Owner's manual for advanced features digital camera for Model no. DMC-ZS9, DMC-ZS8, DMC-TZ18

@muramura95686 appreciate the suggestion, just tried it out and unfortunately it's still not budging.

@oldturkey03 apologies, just read your comment properly. everything works normally; the screen turns off immediately when in rec mode, but the camera is still on.
