The problem with inoperative charging ports is that we won't know precisely where the problem is until we take it apart and have a look inside.

Why? Because these ports break due to external stress on the charging cable while it is inserted. Those forces are leveraged into the device, but which part breaks? The connector socket, the solder pads between the socket and the main board, or the main board itself?

If only the socket is damaged, it can be removed and replaced with the same style of socket.

If only the solder pads are broken and nothing else, we can remove the socket, clean the pad structure, prepare it for resin bonding, solder in the socket and reinforce the pad structure with resin. A difficult task.

If only the main board is damaged the fix is to re-engineer this area of the main board (very hard) or replace the main board (potentially very expensive)

If you are determined to do this yourself, you may find that you will need to engineer a new solution to create a lasting fix. Something impractical, which deviates away from a convenient hole to insert the charging cable. It really depends on what you find inside.

Should you feel bad about it? NO. All mobile devices share an inherit weak spot where the charge cable is embedded into a socket. Moving, dropping, yanking the cable, directs a lot of leveraged force onto delicate components. It's as much user abuse as it is poor design. This is a very common issue.
