Help Identifying How To Fix Charging Port that Fell Off

Hi.

I've been trying to repair my old 3DS, and for the most part this has gone smoothly with minimal issues. The only problem I'm facing immediately is that I'll need to do some soldering to re-affix the charging port. I have zero experience with this and need a hand identifying what steps I should take with my console.

I've tried to get some up-close photos of it, and I can see a little bit of green/yellow missing from the outer soldered point. They appear black up close, and with some further inspection also seemed to have a residue of something, very thin and eggshell-like.

I'm looking at all sorts of guides to try and figure out what to do, but I've yet to come across any that have damage even remotely similar to that on mine. The port itself doesn't look damaged, thankfully, I'm just struggling to tell where to start on fixing it.

The two pads in the middle, labelled 1 and 2, are the only ones you really need to worry about, since they're the ones that carry the power in from the cord. Pin 5 looks like it's probably a ground for the connector shell.

Anyway, it looks to me like the pads are in good shape, so I don't think you'll have any trouble with soldering the port back on. Use some flux and solder wick to remove the existing solder from the pads, then clean them well with 90% or higher concentration isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol.

I went through a few videos showing how to replace that port, but the majority of them use a hot air gun to do the soldering. I did find one that shows how to replace the port using a soldering iron, and it has good suggestions on how to clean the pads and reconnect the legs on the port.

Thanks man! I just wanted to make sure it wasn't entirely unrepairable before I give anything a shot to fix it. Since I have no experience with this sort of thing, I was finding it hard to tell (a lot of guides tend to use more technical terms for the process than I can really grasp at my level). Very thankful for the help.

I'll certainly make another post if I run into another issue or the console works perfectly, though. I had to order basically every other part, aside from the motherboard to fix it, so it's basically a waiting game until that all gets here. But I think it'll all be worthwhile to have one of my earliest consoles running like new again.
