Because the remote still works in apps and on normal TV functions, this sounds less like a dead remote and more like the Samsung Home/Smart Hub screen freezing or not accepting navigation input.
Try this order:
1. Power-cycle the TV fully: unplug it from the wall for 2-3 minutes, then plug it back in. Also restart/charge the remote.
2. Re-pair the Samsung Smart Remote: hold Back + Play/Pause together for about 3-5 seconds while standing close to the TV until the pairing message appears.
3. If you can reach settings another way, check for a TV software update: Settings > Support > Software Update.
4. Reset Smart Hub, not the whole TV first: Settings > Support > Device Care / Self Diagnosis > Reset Smart Hub. This often fixes Home-screen-only navigation problems.
5. Disconnect HDMI devices temporarily and test the Home screen again. A stuck CEC device can sometimes make the TV UI behave oddly.
6. As a temporary way to navigate, try Samsung's SmartThings phone remote on the same Wi-Fi. If SmartThings can navigate Home but the physical remote cannot, focus on remote pairing. If neither can navigate Home, focus on Smart Hub/software reset.
If none of that changes it, the next step would be a full factory reset or Samsung service, but I would try Smart Hub reset and re-pairing first.
Hi @bill82857
The user manual isn't explicit but are there any control buttons on the TV that you can use e.g. Menu, CH Up/Down, Vol.Up/Down etc to see if you can navigate using one of them?
