@raq14284 Ouch! You need that cleaned ASAP! Get isopropyl alcohol 99%+, get that bad boy opened up, disconnect the battery, and get to scrubbing!

@raq14284 this is a rather old question and by now it either got fixed already or is further damaged by corrosion from the sugar in the soda. Anyhow, you would treat it the same way as you would any other device that got liquid damage.

The very first thing is to clean it. Since iFixit does not yet have a specific guide for this, use the HP 255 G7 Maintenance And Service Manual. Remove the motherboard as well as all teh other boards. You will have to remove all the EMI shields off those boards. If you do not remove the shields, you are not cleaning the board.

Take a close look at all components and connectors to assess the damage. Look for major corrosion, evaluate the pins in the connectors etc,. Take a look at all connectors as well as cable ends. Once you got any gross contamination cleaned, use 90%+ isopropyl alcohol and clean all of your parts some more. For a proper cleaning of the boards, use this guide. It was written for an Apple iPhone 3G but all the steps are still pertinent to your laptop as well. I can not stress the importance of a good cleaning enough, so do it over and over while replacing the alcohol after each cleaning. Best thing to do would be to clean it with an ultrasonic cleaner, but if you do not have access to one, this will at least help. While you clean your boards, check for any obvious damage, like burned or missing components etc. The importance here is the cleaning.

It is f course possible that the damage is isolated to your keyboard or may included the keyboard. In the case of your laptop, the keyboard is considered part of the top cover and you would need to replace the cover. Start with the motherboard first as well as the battery, then double check your top cover/keyboard.

Once all this is done, reassemble your laptop and reevaluate. Until it is cleaned, everything will only be a guess.
