Replacing a burned USB Port

Same MBA from previous 2 questions. We ran a diagnostics after solving the charging issue and got a notice of a faulty thunderbolt with no output & a burned USB port. Upon closer inspection the outside of the port appears to be burned! Question is, can these be easily replaced by lifting them both from a donor board of the same model? Note that there is some sort of material shielding over the top which will more than likely 'melt', so do we just peel that off and then replace it with some tape to cover the holes below? Seems to be a straight forward transplant, but asking just to be sure.

I have yet to find a dependable way to replace most of the ports Apple has mounted on the main logic board. Sadly I always end up replacing the logic board. Between custom parts and the shielding some have to even get to the port to try to unsolder them and some have the mounting tabs bent so the board can be wave soldered so you need to unbend them otherwise you'll damage the boards layers.

@danj I had a hunch there would be more to it than just a lift and drop..... I think we will try to remove one from an old donor board 'to see the process / snags involved' before anything else.... Knock on effects from a Faulty TBP

@danj It was the USB that was burned out, but no output on USB & TBP (Both on the right side). So, theoretically we need to use a solder sucker to remove the underside solder, then unbend the clips to remove the ports right?

@livfe - Are you reading on the boards USB port 5 volts? Which is expected. First check if the lines are shorted If not that's your focus if finding why it's not present. Without power any non-powered device won't respond when plugged in. And if there was a AC powered device plugged in the external devices USB lines need to be checked as they may be pushing in voltage into the system burning out the logic.

@danj USB port is now suddenly revived don't know how, but the TBP is still sleeping....

@livfe - Sounds like a cold solder joint issue within the 5volt line to the port
