Mouse sensor seems to have broken

My G305 has been working pretty much perfectly for the past 2-3 years but I went away for a few days and now I've come back and the sensor seems to be dead. The battery is new and the lights on the mouse work and aren't flashing red like they usually do when the battery is low but the infrared sensor light is gone. I really like the mouse and it was pretty expensive for my budget so I don't want to have to replace it bc I wouldn't be able to get another 305 so I wanted to know if there was anything I haven't thought of to fix it before I try taking it apart.

This usually points to sensor-level failure or firmware/power issues rather than something simple like a low battery. Test on Another Computer/Surface, Reset the Mouse, Re-pair the Wireless Dongle

Sensor-Specific Troubleshooting

🔹 Infrared Sensor Light

  • The sensor uses IR illumination, which is invisible to the naked eye.
  • If you see no faint glow at all under a phone camera (IR can sometimes show up), it may indicate a dead sensor or no power delivery to the sensor.

🔹 Internal Contact Issue

  • The G305 is fairly robust, but battery movement, humidity, or shock can loosen the tiny contacts connecting the sensor to the PCB.
  • If the mouse has been stored somewhere it could have gotten warm, cold, or damp, the sensor might not be getting voltage.

If All Else Fails: Internal Inspection

Important: Opening the G305 will void warranty (though after 2–3 years, that’s probably not a concern).

Things to check internally:

  1. Remove the shell carefully.
  2. Look for burnt or discolored components around the sensor.
  3. Check the sensor flex or PCB solder joints — sometimes a tiny crack can appear, cutting power.
  4. If you’re lucky, it’s just a loose ribbon or solder joint, which can be reflowed with very light soldering.

There's a faint bluish-purple light coming from the sensor under a phone camera, does this mean the issue is with something else in the mouse? I've tried it on a laptop and it still didn't work so I'm confident it's not my PC
