@pdbgmail it will help if you let us know what OS you are using. I assume some kind of Windows.

First check your device manager to find out if your audio is still being recognized. If so, I would suggest that you update the audio drivers. Go to Device Manager, expand "Sound, video and game controllers," right-click your audio device (e.g., Realtek High Definition Audio) and select "Update driver".

If an upgrade does not work or there is none available, retry to reinstall your drives. Simply uninstall the existing driver and then restart your computer. Windows will reinstall the audio driver upon restart.

If that does not work, you will need to check the computers BIOS to make sure that all hardware is properly detected and enabled. To enter the BIOS on your computer you will need to turn off the computer. Then press the power button, and repeatedly press the esc key until the Startup Menu opens. Press F10 to enter BIOS Setup Utility.

If none of that worked, then the issue could be a hardware issue. Connect some headphones to your computer and listen if those work. sometimes inserting and removing the headphones in rapid succession will release a stuck headphone jack. A stuck headphone jack may make the computer "think", that headphones are connected and thus turns the speakers off.
