Previously working fine without any issues and have just been stored for some time unused only to occasionally give some charge to keep battery health.
Clean installation OS 12.7.6 Monterey & new batteries.
No evidence whatsoever of water damage.
Tested with a couple of new touch pad cables.
All keys seems to be working fine QWERTY 123 etc....
Touch pad seems to have all features working.

This looks like the same issue as your other system? Also facing ghost touch syndrome! This is a trackpad issue when moisture (cleaning liquid) has entered into the membrane sandwich. See if a hair dryer warming up the trackpad fixes things.

Very odd, yes 2 machines showing quite similar symptoms yet I haven't cleaned them or used any liquids..... one of them the option key appears not to load the boot menus..... other I am clean installing again to see if that cured anything. Very odd 2 units have this at the same time.... cupboard is dry but here is humid weather but they are well kept..... I have 2 new trackpad cables coming in the next days and can try them also.... if not I guess 2 new trackpads are in order... or Keyboards....
@livfe - Does taping the case alter the effect? So a bad Touchpad is ruled out also check click action does it have a little play or to tight?
@danj Everything seems to be in ace condition, cables are flat and as they should be, connectors and latches are fine, new batteries, charging OK, click is Ok, I cannot think what it can be, it's either TP, TP cable or KB.... but all seems to be fine, option key on one isn't responding but that can be TP or cable, other the option key is 100%, 2 finger taps bring up menus, all keys are typing their respective functions ABC etc.... But these functions obviously only work when this issue calms down, but it starts again at random and continues for whenever long....I'm baffled. (Read somewhere turning off bluetooth can resolve it?)
@livfe - I’ve never seen Bluetooth as the issue as the radio signals would need to be from a BT device (keyboard/mouse/trackpad). The Airport board is easy enough to take out if it was defective.
But why do you have two systems with the same problem? What is common between these two systems is what I would focus in on. This could be environmental or something you do or use.
@danj It can ONLY be 'environment' as they were stored on top of each other together with another, the 2 funny ones were on the top.... bottom unit is fine.... It is a mystery to me as the storage area isn't damp in any way.I open the doors everyday for ventilation too... I have about 25 units stored same way, so it wouldn't be the best news if this 'spread' to others....
