Unable to root in Odin mode

Since the device has stopped receiving security updates, I am attempting to root the device in order to install an alternate operating system. While attempting to root the tablet using Odin, it pauses for at least 20 minutes with the following text in the message box:

I shut down my laptop to charge it, opened it up and tried it again, it worked this time.
