Does replacing the logic board bypass iCloud lock

You are quite right with your assumption that the iCloud lock is tied to the logic board, so yes, swapping out the motherboard with one that is unlocked will indeed get you a functional phone. The biggest caveat to that is that you will need the home button from that same phone, as it is paired to the motherboard. If you don't take it you'll lose the Touch ID fingerprint detection for good since Apple is the only one who can pair the home button to your logic board.

If the donor phone where you got the logic board has a working, intact display then the easiest thing would be to simply swap over that screen along with the attached home button. Otherwise you'll have to very carefully remove it from the original screen and transplant it onto the screen of the iCloud locked phone.
